Differentiated Instruction
Students have been scheduled in ELA and ELA honors classes for this school year. I do not limit my students, and will gladly provide both accelerated content and remedial content as needed. Classes cover similar content, but is differentiated to address the individual needs and the pace necessary for that particular class.
Class Materials
Students are expected to always have their 2 composition notebooks for class every day. These notebooks are for literature and writing and grammar. Students also need their DGP (Daily Grammar Practice) Help Pages (provided the first week of school), and writing utensils. Additional materials that can be very helpful in class include a glue stick, markers, colored pencils, highlighters, post it notes, pencil sharpener, tape, headphones, and pencil top erasers. I am always open to donations of Mr. Sketch markers (they last forever), post it notes, pencils, pencil top erasers, paper towels, and books- always books.

Class Observations
Parents are welcome in my classroom at any time, but must check in at the front office and be announced prior to being allowed into the building. Appointments are preferred so that I can communicate where we are if we might be traveling somewhere other than our classroom, and also so that I can ensure a place for you to sit during your visit.
Helping with Homework
You are welcome to help your child with homework, but please do not do the work for him or her. Helping can include reading directions and materials aloud with your child, checking work to make sure directions are followed and responses are correct, helping provide materials and suggestions for research or next steps, and helping study for tests. If you have questions about an assignment, please have your child contact me. By the end of the second week of school, all composition notebooks have been set up and classwork and homework expectations and assignments have been discussed. Asking questions about reading and sharing interesting reading are also great ways you can help support your child.
